2026: The Year of the Horse
Yes, yes every year is the Year of the Horse for us. But something rings very true about this actually and truly being the Year of the Horse. To gallop forward with intention. Okay that might be too much but I’m really feeling the horse girl vibes.
My whole life has revolved around the grace and wisdom and excitement of our horses - and for one reason or another I have kept that very much private. A special part of me and my family that there is no need to share. I cautiously decided to shift this mindset and have enjoyed leaning in to sharing my passion.
20 Years of Partnership: Kate Sheehan + Emily Bushnell
At Tranquility Lake Farms, relationships really are at the heart of everything—from our connection with our wonderful horses to our trainers, jockeys, partner farms and the thoughtful staff that take care of our thoroughbreds. One of our most important relationships is with our incredible Bloodstock Manager, Kate Sheehan, who happens to be one of my best friends as well.
The Year in Racing for Tranquility Lake Farms
Our horses love to race and they have really brought their best to 2025. The 11 thoroughbreds we have racing hit the board 25 times out of 44 starts, finishing in the top three 60% of the time. I couldn't be prouder of how things came together. Our trainers placed our horses really well throughout the year—putting them where they had the best chance to succeed and show what they could do. We even had a winner at Saratoga, which is always special. Here are a few racing highlights for the year:

Tranquility Lake Farms continues legacy of the late Marty Wygod

The life’s work of prominent breeder and owner Marty Wygod, who died in April of 2024, is not just celebrated, but furthered each day as his daughter, Emily Bushnell, has taken the reins and formed Tranquility Lake Farms to continue racing and breeding descendants of the Wygods’ prized racing families.

Oh, for a daughter to take the legacy forward!
That was the late Marty Wygod's thought, year after year, when his dual Grade I winner Tranquility Lake (Rahy) persisted in stubbornly producing colts. True, her Storm Cats had served his program well: After Market and Courageous Cat both won Grade Is, while their brother Jalil made $9.7 million as a yearling. But then, finally, the mare delivered a filly–her very last foal, by Smart Strike.

The late Marty Wygod's fascination with racehorses that took root while growing up in New York City would blossom into a family endeavor. Marty, his wife, Pam, and daughter Emily Bushnell together planned matings, chose horses to keep or sell out of their breeding program, helped craft the racing plans for their homebreds, and diligently found second careers and new homes for their horses that never made it to the track or have been retired from racing.

Emily Wygod Bushnell: An Endeavor to Change Lives

Emily Wygod Bushnell grew up valuing horses in her own life. She began riding first in New Jersey and then continued in San Diego, California, at Newmarket Farm under Cece Durante Bloum, Erin Durry and Lorrie DeRosa. “I competed mainly in Junior Jumpers and equitation, traveling east for finals and steadily progressing until I was competing in Grand Prix events. After college, I focused more on Amateur Owner Hunters while becoming increasingly involved with our family’s Thoroughbred business,” Emily said. “I decided to take a break from showing to concentrate on the Thoroughbreds and dedicate time to volunteering at therapeutic centers.”
